FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

LASH EXTENSIONS

WHAT ARE EYELASH EXTENSIONS?

Eyelash Extensions are individual strands of synthetic fibers made to replicate a natural eyelash. When applied, eyelash extensions add length and thickness to your own natural eyelashes. The single strands are applied to each individual eyelash, one by one. With proper application, lash extensions look and feel completely natural and will not change or damage your natural eyelashes.

HOW LONG DO THEY LAST?

When applied by a trained professional using quality products, eyelash extensions will last the length of the natural growth cycle of your own eyelashes. Depending on your activity and day-to-day routine, fills should only be required every 2 to 3 weeks. Most of my clients come in at 3-3.5 week intervals.

WILL THEY DAMAGE MY NATURAL LASHES?
No, as long as they are applied by a licensed and trained professional.  I apply the extensions to your healthy natural lashes, and do not overload them with extensions that are too long or too heavy for your natural eyelash. My number one priority is lash health, if your natural lashes are not strong enough for the desired length/fullness that you want I will be honest with you and will not apply lashes that could cause any damage to your natural lashes.

Caring for your lashes is extremely important, if you have dirty lashes with tons of build up this also adds weight and can cause lashes to get stuck together which can be damaging. You must diligently care for your lashes, or don't get them at all.

IS IT SAFE?

Yes - as long as you are going to a reputable lash artist! I use professional grade adhesive that is designed specifically for eyelash extensions. The adhesive only comes in contact with your eyelashes, not your skin. Synthetic eyelashes adhere about 1mm away from your skin (directly on to your natural eyelash), so most clients will not have any issues. It is possible to be allergic to the lash adhesive, it’s pretty rare. If you have allergies or sensitivities please consult your doctor prior to getting eyelash extensions, I can provide an ingredients list prior to your appointment if requested.

My products are cruelty-free!

CAN I APPLY MASCARA TO MY LASH EXTENSIONS?

Absolutely not! Lash extensions are designed to give your natural lashes an improved look of fullness so mascara is not needed. Wearing mascara on your eyelash extensions can lead to build up, and the extra washing that is needed will cause your eyelashes to fall out quicker. Eyelash extensions are an investment and should be cared for as such.

Can I swim, shower, exercise, or visit a spa while wearing eyelash extensions?

Yes! The adhesive used to apply your eyelash extensions is secure enough to allow you to get right back to your routine. Swimming in chlorinated pools and salt water may cause you lashes to fall out faster and may require more frequent fills. Keeping away from extensive contact with steam such as in saunas or certain facials is recommended since it can begin to loosen the bond.

How soon can I wash my face after the extensions are applied?
You can get them wet immediately after your appointment, if you want. I will micro-mist your lashes causing the adhesive to fully cure instantly. Back in the day it was recommended to wait 24 hours before getting lash extensions wet, this is no longer ideal and it is actually beneficial to rinse them if you have sensitivities to the adhesive. Only use approved lash cleanser on your eyelash extensions and eye area. Products containing oil will break down the bond of the adhesive causing your lash extensions to fall off.

How do I dry my eyelash extensions?
After cleansing your eyelashes, brush your extensions with a clean mascara wand and use a lint-free cloth to gently apply pressure to the top of your extensions while keeping your eyes closed.

How do I take care of my new eyelash extensions?

I provide all my clients with a kit containing lash shampoo and refillable bottle, cleansing brushes, and samples of oil free skin care products that you are safe to use with lash extensions. Refills of lash cleanser are available for $7 as long as you keep your reusable pump bottle!

Here are some tips to care for your new lashes....

Avoid hot steam or sauna.
Do not use any products containing oil on or around the eyes.

Do not put any makeup on your eyelashes, avoid waxy  makeup on the eye area.

Wash your lashes daily using an approved lash cleanser.
Do not perm eyelashes or manually curl.
Brush with a clean mascara wand daily.

Do not touch, pick, pull your extensions.

Keep your lashes away from heat sources (smoking, baking, cooking, fires, barbecues, etc). Flames/heat can straighten or singe the extensions.

How long will it take to apply eyelash extensions and how is it done?
The application process for lash extensions normally takes about 2-3.5 hours for a full set of lashes and 1-2 hours for a fill. You will be laying down with your eyes closed for the duration of the appointment. During application, your lower lashes will be covered and the extensions will be applied only to your upper lashes one at a time. Many clients fall asleep during their appointment.

If you are worried about getting bored or restless I recommend scheduling for a time of day where you'll be most relaxed, for example: early in the morning before coffee or after work. I always have music playing, and I take requests! You can bring headphones to listen to a podcast or audio book (I love podcasts so we can absolutely listen to one on the speakers if you want, too!)

How do I choose the look I want?
I will consult with you to understand what type of style you are interested in and what look will work best with your natural lashes. The overall look of the lashes can range from very natural to very voluminous!

Do I have to do anything to prepare for the service?

Remove all make up and do not reapply any eye makeup for 24 hours prior to your appointment.

Do not go crazy on caffeine before your appointment, you will be unable to hold still and it will make it extremely difficult for me,

What happens if I choose to have my eyelash extensions removed?

You can schedule to have your extensions removed, removal is a short thirty-minute appointment in which we apply a gel remover. The gel remover is applied on top of the extensions without touching the skin and allowed to sit for 10 minutes. Once the adhesive is dissolved the extensions are gently wiped away with lint free applicators exposing the natural lashes.

I have eyelash extensions from another salon, can i schedule for a fill with you?

If you are coming from another artist you will need to schedule a full set*. Since you are new to me we will need to go over liability waivers and forms, consult about your lashes, then we will do a removal and new set.

*I accept foreign fills for clients who's lashes were done by one of my students, if that is the case be sure to let me know who referred you by replying to the confirmation email. If I don't hear back from you about your previous artist your appointment will be cancelled.

HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR LASH EXTENSIONS

I provide all my new clients with a kit containing lash shampoo and refillable bottle, cleansing brushes, and samples of oil free skin care products that you are safe to use with lash extensions. Refills of lash cleanser are available for $7 as long as you keep your reusable pump bottle!

Do not touch, pull or rub your eye/eyelashes.

If your eyelashes are tangled or crossed over, gently use the eyelash brush given to you during your appointment to brush them straight and put them in place, do not touch them with your fingers.

Do not use eyelash curlers or mascara with your extensions.

I do not recommend wearing mascara on the bottom lashes either, as

this can transfer to your lash extensions and is extremely difficult to

remove.

go easy on the oils.

My adhesive is oil resistant, however, it's still best to avoid oil around your eyes.

Products containing oil will break down the bond of the adhesive over time (potentially causing your lash

extensions to fall off.)

Wash your eyelashes daily.

Proper hygiene is extremely important. Keep your lashes clean by regularly washing

them with the lash shampoo that I have provided in your aftercare kit. If you wear any makeup on or around your eyes you need to wash it off, do not sleep with makeup on. If you do not keep your eyelashes clean  you are putting yourself at risk for bacteria growth and other health issues as well as bad lash retention!

Do not brush your lashes when they are wet, allow them to air dry and then gently brush them.

Use care when applying facial and eye creams to avoid the lash line.

Oil-based products will break down the adhesive - do not use them.

I recommend fills every 14-21 days to maintain your lashes

Fills must be scheduled within 21 days of your most recent appointment. After 21 days a full set is required. Fills are priced by the amount of time needed, if you come every 2 weeks and take excellent care of your lashes you should only need a 60-75 minute fill, after two weeks 75-90 minutes is recommended. If you’re not sure it’s best to book for longer and we can adjust the price based on how long it actually takes.

You must have at least 40% of your eyelash extensions remaining to be considered a fill, if you have less than 40% of your eyelash extensions remaining a full set will be required and you may need to reschedule if time does not allow.

If you think you will need extra time at your fill please give me advance notice, if you’re not sure just ask! Communication is key. Lash extensions will fall out with your natural lashes, it is normal to shed a few lashes daily, don’t panic!
